I find fascinating how the fly brain with its rather low computational power is capable of generating behaviors of astonishing complexity and precision. To understand it, I study how flies process visual information in order to guide their navigation. More precisely, how neural circuits that process visual motion instruct and modulate fly behavior. I use molecular-genetic techniques, optogenetics, electrophysiology and bioimaging to get a broad view on visually driven behaviors in flies.
